Ana De Costa BIOGRAPHY

Since graduating from Central St. Martins, London, in 2005, Ana has made a remarkable impact on the international jewellery industry. Having successfully worked with Shaun Leane the jeweller renowned for designing catwalk pieces for Alexander Mcqueen, and the costume jewellers Erickson Beamon, she has proven her abilities at the highest and most successful level of fine jewellery creation. In 2005, Carol Woolton, jewellery editor of British Vogue entered Ana into The list which was a definitive guide of key people to watch for the year ahead.

In 2006 Ana was invited to showcase her graduation collection at Childwickbury Art Fair, an event run by Christiane Kubrick, wife of avant-garde film director Stanley Kubrick. In 2007 Ana launched ‘Mystical Tarot,’ her first major fine jewellery collection since graduating. It was in association with the Tanzanite Foundation with whom Ana designed a capsule collection of five haute couture jewellery pieces.

This luxurious collection was launched at Home House in Mayfair, London and was sponsored by Godiva, Kiehls and Perrier Jouet. In 2008 Ana collaborated with Swarovski on their Runway Rocks show celebrating large scale body pieces by key international jewellers. In the same year, she also won the coveted ‘Young Designer of the Year’ at the UK Jewellery Awards. Her work was also showcased at the Queen’s bank Coutts on the strand in London.

In 2009, in collaboration with The World Land Trust, Ana made a pair of dragonfly inspired earrings which were successfully sold at Liberty of London with the proceeds being used to support their wildlife campaigns. In 2011 Ana collaborated with the ethical mining company Gemfields to create her biggest and, most valuable, one off piece to date.

She created an exquisite pair of 20ct emerald earrings, handcrafted in 18ct yellow gold and set with natural cognac diamonds. These important earrings, along with a bracelet and ring from the ‘Spiritual Henna’ collection were worn at the 2013 Oscars in Los Angeles by the wife of Paul Epworth, (the award winning music producer) where he won an Oscar with Adele for the song ‘Skyfall.’ This award winning combination of luxury British craftsmanship and avant- garde design, has meant that Ana is a ‘darling’ amongst editors and international buyers.

Her work is regularly featured in Vogue, W Magazine, Harper’s Bazaar and Vanity Fair and her private commission clients include Hollywood royalty Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. It also includes a range of international royal families.

To date, Ana’s bespoke work has included collaborating with a Mathematic professor at Cambridge University to create bespoke working sundials which also serve as objet d’art. This project required extensive research and prototyping to perfect the accurate mathematical workings of the sundial, which were set to a specific time zone.
